Talk Truths
The priests under the Law offered sacrifices continually v.1Hebrews 10:1XWaiting for response because of recurring sin.v.2Hebrews 10:2XWaiting for response They sacrificed daily, even though they could not take away sins.v.11Hebrews 10:11XWaiting for response In contrast, Jesus offered his body as a sacrifice once,v.10Hebrews 10:10XWaiting for response removed sins for ever,v.12Hebrews 10:12XWaiting for response and perfected for ever them that are sanctified.v.14Hebrews 10:14XWaiting for response Afterwards Jesus did not sacrifice himself again but sat at God’s right hand anticipating the time when all enemies will be put under his feet.v.13Hebrews 10:13XWaiting for response In the meantime, because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can enter into a new covenant with God by which, having his law written in our hearts,v.16Hebrews 10:16XWaiting for response he will remember our sins and iniquities no more.v.17Hebrews 10:17XWaiting for response Because sins are remitted for ever by the sacrifice of Christ there is no more need to offer animal sacrifices for sin v.18Hebrews 10:18XWaiting for response and by his sacrifice Jesus has opened up a new and living way to God.v.20Hebrews 10:20XWaiting for response
The ultimate condition of the saved will be immortality and this is represented by the Most Holy place in the Temple which is entered from the Holy Place through the veil.v.20Hebrews 10:20XWaiting for response This veil was rent in two when Jesus died and it represents his flesh which was broken. The design of the tabernacle and its furniture represents God’s scheme of salvation through Christ so by studying this design we can see the purpose of God detailed and be guided in our behaviour before him. For example, the laver outside the Holy Place was for the priests to wash themselves, and we can “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water”.v.22Hebrews 10:22XWaiting for response
Israel were warned to obey God’s commands and we also should heed this warning for “if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins”,v.26Hebrews 10:26XWaiting for response and “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”.v.31Hebrews 10:31XWaiting for response
The first disciples suffered greatly at the hands of men vs.33-34Hebrews 10:33-34XWaiting for response but were exhorted to remain confident in view of the “great recompence of reward” they would receive.v.35Hebrews 10:35XWaiting for response Endurance is required to continually do the will of God and finally receive what he has promised v.36Hebrews 10:36XWaiting for response which will certainly arrive, “for yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry”.v.37Hebrews 10:37XWaiting for response Men and women will be declared righteous at the coming of Jesus if they have endured in faith, i.e. they believe God’s word and promises and act according to it, for it is written “the just shall live by faith”.v.38;Hebrews 10:38XWaiting for response Habakkuk 2:4Habakkuk 2:4XWaiting for response The apostle declared he had no part with them that departed from the faith and who would end up in perdition, i.e. they would perish,v.39Hebrews 10:39XWaiting for response but he had pleasure in these faithful disciples that believed to the saving of the soul.v.39Hebrews 10:39XWaiting for response
Verses 1,4-7
Hebrews 10:1,4-7XWaiting for responseIn chapters six to nine, the apostle shows how the Law of Moses foreshadowed Christ and God’s scheme of salvation through him, “the law having a shadow of good things to come”.v.1Hebrews 10:1XWaiting for response The Law provided beforehand a picture of Christ, not an exact image,v.1Hebrews 10:1XWaiting for response but as it were a silhouette so that by reading the Law and noting the patterns contained therein we can see Jesus depicted. For example, animals were sacrificed under the Law of Moses and we can see in them foreshadowing the sacrifice of Christ. However, “It is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins”,v.4Hebrews 10:4XWaiting for response so Jesus had to be of our nature, and he willingly shed his blood for us. Therefore, it was prophesied in Psalm 40 that Jesus would come and do God’s will and by the sacrifice of himself achieve what the sacrifice of animals failed to do.vs.5-7Hebrews 10:5-7XWaiting for response
