Talk Truths
The first "woe". The turn back on him – “Because you have plundered many nations, the remnant of them will plunder you”
God's response includes a series of "Woes" said by the captives of the invader of Israel. In each woe, something wicked the captor has done for his own gain will be turned against him.
The second "woe". The turn back on him – he has built his house by unjust gain, so his house is shamed
The original word for stone is also used to describe Jesus in Psalm 118:22.Waiting for response for Psalm 118:22 So, “The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it” likely speaks of the saints which are represented by a house, where Christ is the cornerstone, crying out because of the wickedness of this invader. Ephesians 2:20-21Waiting for response for Ephesians 2:20-21
The third "woe". The turn back on him – he builds a city, but it’s only for fuel for the fire and building a “human” city is “human” glory but God makes a promise that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of God’s glory.
He makes his neighbours drunk so he can look on their nakedness – seems to be talking about uncovering their secrets
The fourth "woe". The turn back on him – he uncovers their secrets by this wickedness, his secrets will be uncovered and the violence he has done to Lebanon [Palestine] will be done to him.
Finishes with a contrast between God and idols. What an image this silence and reverence of God in his holy temple paints - imagine when Jesus is in front leading everyone and everyone is silent before him waiting for his word. And the same for God when all things are passed up to him!
Verses 2-17
Waiting for response for Habakkuk 2:2-17God's response to Habakkuk takes up most of this chapter, saying that it doesn't matter that the wicked do these things because "the just shall live by his faith" and "the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea".
