Abram prospered in the new land together with his nephew Lot until the increase in herds and flocks caused grazing disputes among their servants. To eliminate this problem, Abram invited Lot to choose the pasture land he preferred, with Abram living elsewhere, to effect an amicable separation. Lot chose the fertile Jordan valley, and Abram received a reiteration of God’s promise which detailed the extent of the promised land.
