Verses 1-5

Zechariah 2:1-5XWaiting for response

Zechariah saw a vision of a man measure Jerusalem, indicating the future of this city would not be left to chance but would be measured, and the prophet was told by the angel where these events would lead: the people dwelling in safety and prosperity, for the LORD would protect them, as with a wall of fire.

Verses 6-9

Zechariah 2:6-9XWaiting for response

The call therefore was sent out to the people of Israel scattered among the nations to return, in particular, from the land of the north, just as they returned from Babylon. We have seen a fulfilment of this in modern times with the Jews returning to the Promised Land and the establishment the State of Israel in 1958. It was most remarkable that among the first were those escaping from Russia where they had suffered terrible pogroms, the Russian name for severe persecution. Indeed, the first nine Presidents and Prime Ministers of Israel were born in the Russian Empire.

Verses 10-13

Zechariah 2:10-13XWaiting for response

These verses describe the rejoicing of Jerusalem and Judah when the Lord Jesus Christ returns and reigns as King of the Jews. It will be a time of blessing for God’s people of Israel and those of other nations who have joined them through Christ. The promises made to Abraham and Christ will be fulfilled with the Lord Jesus inheriting the Promised Land, especially Zion which the LORD has chosen as his dwelling place.
