Verse 1

Waiting for response for Romans 12:1

We must obey the commandments of Christ if we are to be beneficiaries of God’s salvation, therefore Paul also instructs us concerning these commandments. He first insists that, in view of the marvellous promises God has made and the wonderful future in prospect, it is perfectly reasonable that we should devote ourselves entirely to his service.

Verse 2

Waiting for response for Romans 12:2

Our natural inclination is to conform to this age in which we live, but we should transform our lives so that we conform to God’s will as expressed in his word. The Greek word translated “transformed” is “metamorphosis” which we use to describe the change of a caterpillar into a butterfly, and this gives some idea of the tremendous change that should be effected in us by the word of God.

Verses 14,19-21

Waiting for response for Romans 12:14,19-21

To love other people irrespective of what they are like is not easy, and many other commandments are difficult because they go against our natural inclination. Examples of these are the commands to “love our enemies”, and to “forgive those who trespass against us”, but if we obey them we will be like our Heavenly Father who promises to love and forgive us. Therefore the apostle exhorts the reader with this.
