< Micah 1 >

This first chapter of Micah prophesies of the judgments of God v.4-5Micah 1:4-5XWaiting for response because of the wickedness of the people of Israel v.6-7.Micah 1:6-7XWaiting for response Micah was sorrowful because of this v.8-9Micah 1:8-9XWaiting for response where going about barefoot (translated as 'stripped' in KJV) and naked is a common way of showing sorrow in their culture (probably not completely naked!) 2 Samuel 15:30;2 Samuel 15:30XWaiting for response Isaiah 20:2;Isaiah 20:2XWaiting for response Isaiah 22:12;Isaiah 22:12XWaiting for response Jeremiah 25:34.Jeremiah 25:34XWaiting for response His sorrow is further indicated by wailing like a jackal (translated as dragon in KJV) and moaning like an ostrich (translated as owl in KJV). This was not to be declared at Gath though v.10Micah 1:10XWaiting for response assumedly because Gath was a Philistine town, the Philistines being Israel's enemies who could take advantage of their situation. However in the house of Aphrah the instruction is to roll in the dust, another way of indicating sorrow as Aphrah was a Hebrew town.
