Talk Truths
Jude he wrote this short letter to the disciples v.1Jude 1:1XWaiting for response after erroneous doctrines and disobedient practices became widespread in the congregations. He wrote principally to exhort the disciples to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints".v.3Jude 1:3XWaiting for response The true faith is that revealed in the scriptures and proclaimed by Jesus and his apostles, but men had come into the churches and corrupted it.v.4Jude 1:4XWaiting for response Jude reinforces his exhortation to faithfulness by citing examples from the scriptures in which those who did not believe or did wicked deeds were punished severely by God.vs.5-9Jude 1:5-9XWaiting for response Like Peter 2 Peter 2 he cites the cases of Israel in the wilderness,v.5Jude 1:5XWaiting for response the rebellion of Korah, Dathan and Abiram v.6;Jude 1:6XWaiting for response Numbers 16 and Sodom and Gomorrha.v.7Jude 1:7XWaiting for response He also cites the adversaries of the people of Israel returning from Babylon as recorded in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah.vs.8-9Jude 1:8-9XWaiting for response These adversaries were “the devil” who disputed about “the body of Moses” which is the people of Israel, just as “the body of Christ” is the discipleship of Jesus. The reference to Michael the angel rebuking the adversary with the words “The Lord rebuke thee” v.9Jude 1:9XWaiting for response is from the prophecy of Zechariah Zechariah 3:2Zechariah 3:2XWaiting for response in which the prophet saw a vision representing the angel rebuking the adversaries of the Jews. In this place he also refers to those saved from the affliction as “a brand plucked out of the fire” which Jude too applies to disciples rescued from error in his day.vs.22-23Jude 1:22-23XWaiting for response
The word translated "angels" is "angelos" which means messenger. This is referring to the messengers who came to Moses (including Kora) and defied Moses and the earth swallowed him up, proving god was with Moses Numbers 16
Quote from Zechariah 3:2.Zechariah 3:2XWaiting for response The "devil" is a reference to the "satan". The satan and God were discussing the people of Israel being plucked from Babylon "as a brand plucked out of the fire". The people of Israel are referred to as Jerusalem in Zechariah, but refered to as the body of Moses in this reference. The writer is saying to not accuse people because even an archangel didn't judge someone who is clearly ungody (the satan/devil) but said instead "the Lord rebuke thee".
Jude graphically described the evil doers in their midst and spoke of the coming of Christ in judgment.vs.10-16Jude 1:10-16XWaiting for response Peter had warned the disciples of the apostasy to come in similar terms but Jude wrote when it had arrived and the evil doings were in the congregations. He alluded to the previous warnings of the apostles v.17Jude 1:17XWaiting for response and, in particular, to that of Peter who said there would be mockers in the last days (of the Jewish era).v.18;Jude 1:18XWaiting for response 2 Peter 3:32 Peter 3:3XWaiting for response Therefore Jude urged the disciples to heed the warnings, as we should also in our day, and exhorted them, saying: “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. vs.20-21Jude 1:20-21XWaiting for response God would help us to be faithful and bring us before Christ in glory at his coming: “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen”.
