Verses 1-5

Jerusalem is central to the purpose of God and he will not rest until the city is exalted in the earth and his righteousness goes forth therefrom v.1.Isaiah 62:1XWaiting for response The Gentiles will then see his righteousness and glory v.2,Isaiah 62:2XWaiting for response and Jerusalem will be the jewel in the crown v.3.Isaiah 62:3XWaiting for response The status of Jerusalem will be completely changed. It will have a new name: “The LORD is there” v.2Isaiah 62:2XWaiting for response (Ezekiel 48:35).Ezekiel 48:35XWaiting for response It will no more be “Forsaken” or “Desolate” as in the past but will be called “Hephzibah” i.e. “my delight is in her”, and “Beulah” i.e. “married”. Jerusalem and the promised land will prosper and flourish during the Millennium and this is expressed by God using as a figure the marriage of Hezekiah, the king in Jerusalem at the time, and his wife, Hephzibah, for the LORD will delight in his land as Hezekiah delighted in his wife v.5.Isaiah 62:5XWaiting for response

The saints who love the LORD and look for the fulfilment of his purpose are commanded to be like watchmen v.6Isaiah 62:6XWaiting for response and pray for Jerusalem ceaselessly until he makes her a praise in the earth v.7.Isaiah 62:7XWaiting for response The LORD has sworn he will do this v.8.Isaiah 62:8XWaiting for response He will prepare a way for his people to return v.10Isaiah 62:10XWaiting for response and send a call throughout the earth for them to come to the land, for the Lord Jesus will be there as their king and saviour v.11.Isaiah 62:11XWaiting for response He will come with a reward (Revelation 22:12)Revelation 22:12XWaiting for response and will have a great work before him v.11Isaiah 62:11XWaiting for response the result of which will be that Israel will be acknowledged by the nations as “The holy people, the redeemed of the LORD” v.12.Isaiah 62:12XWaiting for response
