< Isaiah 6 >

We learn the meaning of the vision in chapter 6 from John who wrote: “These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him”. John 12:41John 12:41XWaiting for response It is a vision of Jesus sitting in glory on the throne of the LORD in Jerusalem where the temple will be built.v.1Isaiah 6:1XWaiting for response The significance of Isaiah seeing this vision “in the year that king Uzziah died” is that Uzziah sat upon the throne of the LORD as king but exalted himself also to be the LORD’s high priest, and died as a consequence. 2 Chronicles 26:16-212 Chronicles 26:16-21XWaiting for response However, Jesus will be both king and priest on the throne, for “he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both”. Zechariah 6:13Zechariah 6:13XWaiting for response It was apposite therefore that Isaiah should see a vision of Jesus in both these roles, king and priest, at that particular time.

Verses 2-3

This name means “He who shall be hosts” and refers to God’s purpose to manifest himself in a great multitude of men and women. These will be the saints for whom Jesus prayed, expressing this unity: John 17:20-23John 17:20-23XWaiting for response

Verses 5-13

Isaiah 6:5-13XWaiting for response

The saints believe the word of God but Israel, in the main, refused it and shut their eyes and ears, therefore God prevented them from understanding his word by which they could have been converted and healed.vs.9-10Isaiah 6:9-10XWaiting for response This passage is cited a number of times in the New Testament to explain the refusal of the Jews to receive the teaching of Jesus and his apostles.
