Verses 1-5

Verses 6-9

In the beginning all animals fed upon the herb of the field but after the flood some animals became carnivores, and God has decreed concerning the future age: “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain”.v.9Isaiah 11:9XWaiting for response Consequently, in God’s land, wild animals will again be herbivores v.7Isaiah 11:7XWaiting for response and lie down in peace with farm animals, and venomous snakes will be harmless.vs.6-8Isaiah 11:6-8XWaiting for response

Verses 9-13

In Jesus' reign “the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea”,v.9Isaiah 11:9XWaiting for response and the Gentiles will seek him.v.10Isaiah 11:10XWaiting for response There is a rest for the people of God in the promised land Hebrews 4:9Hebrews 4:9XWaiting for response into which the saints will be brought by Jesus, “and his rest shall be glorious”.v.10Isaiah 11:10XWaiting for response The LORD will also “set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people” from the nations of the earth.v.11Isaiah 11:11XWaiting for response A remnant of Israel did return from the Babylonian captivity but soon all the survivors of Israel among the nations will be brought back to the land. Jesus will set up an ensign in the land, a flag to which the people will rally, and the people of Israel and Judah will return from all parts of the earth.v.12Isaiah 11:12XWaiting for response They will no more be divided into the two kingdoms of Ephraim and Judah,v.13Isaiah 11:13XWaiting for response but will form a united kingdom in the land.

Verses 14-16

There will be violent opposition to Israel by her enemies, especially her Arab neighbours, e.g. the Palestinians (Philistines) and Jordan (Moab).v.14Isaiah 11:14XWaiting for response The return of Israel will be reminiscent of the Exodus from Egypt.v.16Isaiah 11:16XWaiting for response The power of God will be manifest in bringing his people into the land: he will destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea (the Red Sea) as of old and dry up the River (Euphrates).v.15Isaiah 11:15XWaiting for response Thus the people of Israel will be brought miraculously into the promised land from the countries north and south which have so oppressed them in the past.
