In this chapter, we read of Jacob obeying the instruction of his father, Isaac, to go to his family in Padanaram, on the other side of the River Euphrates, to find a wife. THis was contrary to Ishmael’s bad example in marrying foreign wives of the land of Canaan with no appreciation of the LORD.

God blessed Leah because of her affliction, resulting in the birth of four sons whose names express the experiences she was going through: Reuben, having a son; Simeon; being heard of God; Levi; hopeful of being joined to her husband; and Judah; giving praise.
