< Daniel 10 >

On a certain occasion when Daniel was fasting and praying over a period of three weeks vs.1-4Daniel 10:1-4XWaiting for response he was given a vision vs.5-6Daniel 10:5-6XWaiting for response which clearly relates to the future when Jesus returns to the earth, raises the dead, and gives eternal life to the faithful. The vision was of a man whose description uses imagery found throughout the scriptures to describe the glorified body of which Jesus is the head. This is “the one like the Son of Man”, composed of a multitude of individuals, “the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude”,v.6Daniel 10:6XWaiting for response who will execute judgment upon the nations.

Most members of the great community of saints in this vision will be brought forth from the grave and changed from corruption to incorruption. To represent this, Daniel passed through a remarkable experience. He described himself as if he was dead: “I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength”,v.8Daniel 10:8XWaiting for response “in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground”.v.9Daniel 10:9XWaiting for response However, the saints are not to remain in the grave for ever. 1 Thessalonians 4:161 Thessalonians 4:16XWaiting for response Therefore Daniel heard a voice,v.9Daniel 10:9XWaiting for response and a hand touched him and raised him firstly to his knees v.10Daniel 10:10XWaiting for response and then upright, but trembling.v.11Daniel 10:11XWaiting for response The dead are raised to judgment, which will be a fearful prospect, but those who are “greatly beloved” will be reassured with words of comfort.v.11Daniel 10:11XWaiting for response We can appreciate that it will be difficult to speak at the judgment-seat in the awesome company of Jesus and a multitude of angels, and Daniel was dumb v.15Daniel 10:15XWaiting for response but enabled to speak v.16Daniel 10:16XWaiting for response as will everyone at the judgment for “every one of us shall give account of himself to God”. Romans 14:12Romans 14:12XWaiting for response Those who are accepted by Christ at the judgment will have their bodies changed into divine nature. 2 Peter 1:42 Peter 1:4XWaiting for response Instead of having weak, mortal and corruptible bodies, the saints will have strong, immortal, incorruptible and glorious bodies as Jesus now possesses.1 Corinthians 15:54;1 Corinthians 15:54XWaiting for response Philippians 3:21Philippians 3:21XWaiting for response Therefore Daniel, in this representation of resurrection, was strengthened v.18Daniel 10:18XWaiting for response and commended with the words: “O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong”.v.19Daniel 10:19XWaiting for response We are given this information in the scriptures so we are encouraged do what God requires and, like Daniel, be commended and given immortality when Jesus comes to judge the world in righteousness.

Verses 12-13,20

Daniel 10:12-13,20XWaiting for response

God is in total control of events and uses his angels, mostly unseen, to effect his purpose in the earth. We have a glimpse of them at work in this chapter. At that time there was conflict between the Persians and the Greeks. God had decreed that the Greeks would ultimately win, and certain angels had a role in bringing this to pass. Clearly this involved hard work on their part for the angel explained to Daniel he was delayed twenty-one days while he dealt with the king of Persia and required the help of another angel.vs.12-13Daniel 10:12-13XWaiting for response After speaking to Daniel the angel returned to deal with the Persian king, knowing also that the king of Greece would come, i.e. Alexander the Great, who would be victorious.v.20Daniel 10:20XWaiting for response We can be sure that the angels are also at work today, controlling events among the nations to bring about the situation described in the scriptures when Jesus will intervene in world affairs and be established as king in Jerusalem.
