< 2 Samuel >

David had been anointed by Samuel to be king over Israel instead of Saul but, as is usually the way in God’s purpose, David did not reign immediately. He first had to suffer persecution at the hands of men who attempted to kill him. Eventually, at Saul’s death, David became king of his own tribe, Judah, and seven years later became king of all Israel. There are, likewise, stages in Jesus’ attainment to the same throne.
